Fishing Boat Rescued From Rocks
Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was requested to launch by UK Coastguard’s Humber Operations Centre at 09:02 after the skipper of the 7m Ena Dolan called for help when his boat drifted onto the rocks after his propeller got tangled in the ropes as he was hauling lobster pots close to the pier. South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade had already been tasked and had made their way to the scene, a short distance from their Watch House.
The lifeboat launched six minutes after the crew were paged and arrived on scene two minutes later, accompanied by two volunteer crewmembers in the station boarding boat who were able to manoever close enough to the casualty boat, pulling her far enough from the pier for the all weather lifeboat crew to get a tow rope attached.
The lifeboat the towed the fishing boat the short distance to Corporation Quay, South Shields where the boarding boat was again used to maneover the boat onto its moorings. Once the boat and skipper were safe the lifeboat returned to station after refuelling.
