Broken-Down Fishing Boat Towed To Safety
The skipper of the 9.8m, 10tonne wooden fishing boat Venture radioed UK Coastguard for assistance at 11:45 after his nets became wrapped around the propeller, damaging the propeller shaft and leaving the boat without power drifting 12 miles due north of the Tyne piers.
Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was requested to launch, leaving the berth just seven minutes after the crew were paged.
Steaming at best speed, the lifeboat located the Venture thirty minutes after launching. The lifeboat crew quickly attached the tow rope and brought the stricken fishing boat and her two occupants to safety at North Shields Fish Quay, arriving at 2.55pm.
Once the boat was safely tied alongside the quay, the lifeboat refuelled, returned to station and was ready for service again at 3.40pm.
