Motorboat Towed To Safety
The skipper of the 5m boat called Humber Coastguard for assistance at 17:35 when his engine failed, leaving the boat drifting in the lower Tyne harbour, a short distance from the lifeboat station.
The inshore lifeboat with three crew members launched at 17:41 and sped the short distance to the stricken vessel which was then towed to safety at its South Shields moorings. Once the two occupants were safe the lifeboat returned to station.
