Person ‘Face Down In Water’ Sparks Lifeboat Launches
Humber Coastguard received a request for assistance at 20:35 from Northumbria Police who had been alerted to a man face down in the sea off Sandhaven Beach, South Shields, opposite the Sand Dancer pub.
Both the all weather and inshore lifeboats launched a few minutes after the volunteer crews were paged and sped to the scene, and although Humber Coastguard had been informed that the casualty had been recovered from the sea, the lifeboats proceeded as a precaution.
Arriving on scene the all weather lifeboat stood by a short distance from the beach while the inshore lifeboat beached and a crew member went ashore. He confirmed that the casualty was sitting up and in the care of paramedics.
The lifeboats were then stood down and returned to station.
