Search After Flare Spotted
The all weather lifeboat was paged at 22:31 by Humber Coastguard who had received a number of 999 calls reporting a flare floating over the Black Midden rocks in the Tyne harbour. The lifeboat made a comprehensive search of the of the harbour while the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade searched the north bank on shore.
After nothing untoward was found and hearing reports from eyewitnesses it was decided that the flare had come from the land in the area of Collingwood Monument and the search was called off.
