Anglers rescued after boat breaks down
The skipper of the 4m boat initially called Port of Tyne Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) for help. The skipper of a nearby fishing boat offered to tow the boat into the piers but would have been unable to get the vessel moored so VTS notified UK Coastguard who requested the launch of the all weather lifeboat at 16:42.
Once launched, the lifeboat quickly took over the tow of the vessel and returned it to its moorings at Satellite Quay, South Shields. Once the men were safely ashore the lifeboat returned to station.
