Surfer ‘In Difficulty’ Prompts Lifeboat Launch
Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 18:20 after they received a report from a concerned member of the public who said they’s seen a surfer caught in a rip current at the south end of Tynemouth Longsands beach.
The lifeboat sped to the scene but could find no trace of anyone in difficulty, and members of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade who had also been tasked could see nothing from shore.
After a short time Humber Coastguard made contact with the informant who confirmed that the surfer who he thought was in difficulty had made it back ashore. The lifeboat and TVLB were then stood down.
