Four People On Stranded Power Boat Brought To Safety
The occupants of a 5m power boat called for help at 17:21 after they found themselves stranded outside the Tyne piers and Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat to go to the rescue.
Launching just five minutes after the volunteer crew were paged, the lifeboat sped to the position reported by the people on board the stranded boat which was behind the south pier.
Arriving in the area the crew found no boat in difficulty so started searching for the vessel which was actually several hundred yards out to sea from the piers.
Once the crew confirmed that this was the casualty vessel, it was quickly taken under tow and it and the four people taken to safety at Royal Quays Marina, the lifeboat returning to station once the four were all safely ashore.
