Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat tows fishing boat to safety
The skipper of the 10m Charisma called for assistance shortly after 1pm and Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was launched soon after to go to her assistance. The casualty was 8 miles SSE of the Tyne piers.
Arriving on scene the volunteer lifeboat crew quickly attached a tow rope to the Charisma and the tow back to the Tyne started.
As the lifeboat and trawler neared South Shields the tow was paused to allow the fishermen to recover as much of their net aboard as possible before entering the harbour. As this was taking place the inshore lifeboat was requested to launch and join a search for a missing person at Marsden, South Tyneside. The all weather lifeboat’s inflatable Y boat was launched and joined the search, as the Charisma was then towed to North Shields fish quay.
Once Charisma was safely tied up the lifeboat returned to sea to join the search.
