Angling boat towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat
Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 13:45 after the skipper of the boat called them for help after his engine failed, leaving the boat stranded half a mile off South Shields.
Arriving at the scene just a few minutes after launching the stranded boat was quickly located. A tow rope was attached and the boat taken back into the Tyne.
As the boat had launched from South Shields slipway it was impossible for the all weather lifeboat to manoeuvre the boat to shore so the Y boat – a small inflatable lifeboat carried on board – was launched with two of the volunteer crew to get the boat with its occupants – two men and a young boy – safely ashore.
The occupants were met by Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team who had also been tasked to assist on land, and the Y boat was recovered before the lifeboat returned to station.
