Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats in search for suspected person in water
The all weather and inshore lifeboats with a total of 9 volunteer crewmembers were requested to launch at 22:51 by Humber Coastguard after they had received reports about a distressed woman having entered the Tyne close to the Groyne,
The lifeboats made the short journey across the river and commenced searching. During the search it transpired that the woman had been seen knee deep at 16:30 that afternoon and had not been seen since.
The search was assisted from land by South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and after two hours the rescuers and Humber Coastguard were satisfied there was no trace of the woman and stood the search down, referring the incident back to Northumbria Police for further investigation.
The lifeboats then returned to station.
