Four people rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat
The skipper of a 6m motor boat called for help at 10.05am after his engine failed, leaving the boat drifting in rough seas a few hundred yards south of South Shields pier.
Owing to the sea conditions, Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was launched to rescue the three adults and one teenager onboard the boat.
Arriving on the scene just a few minutes after launching the casualty boat was taken under tow back into the Tyne. One crewmember went onboard the boat as a safety precaution and to deploy a drogue to keep the tow stable. The teenager was taken off the boat and onto the lifeboat as he was suffering from severe sea sickness.
Once the four were safely ashore the lifeboat recovered the ‘Y’ boat and returned to station, arriving at 11.30.
