Stranded trawler with four crew rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat
The skipper of the Fraserburgh-based 47 tonne 15m Sparkling Waters radioed Humber Coastguard for assistance after his boat’s steering failed, leaving the boat and her four crew stranded 5 miles east of Tynemouth.
The lifeboat had already been tasked to assist another fishing boat, the Three Sisters, and as Sparkling Waters and her crew were in no immediate danger it was decided that they could be left until the lifeboat had completed the first rescue.
Returning to the casualty vessel in just over an hour the lifeboat crew attached a tow rope and took her to safety at North Shields fish quay. The grateful skipper gave the crew a large bag of prawns and fish as thanks for the rescue.
Once Sparkling Waters was safely tied up the lifeboat refuelled and returned to station at 18:00, four hours after first launching on exercise.https://www.tynemouth-lifeboat.org/2013/11/10/1225/stranded-trawler-with-four-crew-rescued-by-tynemouth-rnli-lifeboat/Stranded trawler with four crew rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboatServicesall,Lifeboat,Rescue,RNLI,service, sparkling,Trawler,Tyne,Tynemouth, waters, weatherIN the third service carried out by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats today, a trawler with steering gear failure was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat this afternoon.
