20 Jan 2010 All weather lifeboat launched to drifting trawler

At 13:25 Humber Coastguard received a distress call from the Skipper of the trawler Lindisfarne. The Lindisfarne had been under tow from fellow trawler Boy Ian for several hours after her engine failed approximately 15 miles east of the Tyne. As the pair neared the Tyne piers the tow parted in the heavy sea and Lindisfarne started drifting dangerously close to the rocks at Sharpness Point. Reaching the Lindisfarne in just a few minutes after the alarm was raised she was quickly taken under tow to deeper water and then the tow was established back to the safety of the Tyne without further incident.

01 Jan 2010 Both lifeboats launched to suspected surfer in difficulty.

In the first services of 2010 carried by any RNLI lifeboats both the all weather and inshore lifeboats were paged at 10:12am after a member of the public had reported a surfer in possible difficulties at the southern end of South Shields beach, near Trow Point.

Arriving at the scene the crews found a surfer who was in no difficulty. after ensuring there was no possibility of anyone else in the water nearby the lifeboats were stood down and returned to station. The incident was treated as a false alarm with good intent.
