HMS Northumberland

Tynemouth lifeboat is proud to be affiliated with HMS Northumberland, a Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate. Launched from Swan Hunter shipyard in 1992, the ship and its crew complement of 180 was given the freedom of the County of Northumberland in 2004.

HMS Northumberland is the sixth ship of the Royal Navy to carry the name since the original was launched in 1679. Her commanding officer is Commander T J Guy RN. Click here to visit HMS Northumberland’s website.

HMS Northumberland arrives on the Tyne

HMS Northumberland visited Newcastle during February 2007. Tynemouth lifeboat crewmembers were given an opportunity to tour the ship and Commander Guy paid a return visit to the lifeboat station and took the helm of the Severn. When HMS Northumberland left she was escorted out by Spirit of Northumberland. Here are some photographs from the visit.
