Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station

Incident At Marsden Bay

THE recovery of a body from the beach under cliffs at Marsden Bay on Thursday morning led to the launch of Tynemouth RNLI all weather and inshore lifeboats to support the operation.

Humber Coastguard requested the lifeboats to launch at 06:41 and act as safety cover for Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade who were recovering the casualty using rope rescue equipment.

The lifeboats launched just eight minutes after the crew were paged and arrived on scene at 06:59, standing by a short distance from the beach.

The casualty was recovered soon after and the lifeboats were stood down at 07:05.

Lifeboats: D-693 Mark Noble and 17-20 Spirit of Northumberland.
