Person Falls From Redheugh Bridge

Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat launching at night

A PERSON falling into the river Tyne from the Redheugh Bridge prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat in the early hours of Friday morning.

Our volunteers were paged at 05:05 when UK Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat following a request for assistance from Northumbria Police.

Launching just five minutes after the page the lifeboat and three volunteer crew members started speeding the eight miles upriver to the scene of the incident but as they passed North Shields ferry landing it was confirmed that the casualty had been recovered safely by Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue’s boat and the lifeboat was stood down, returning to station just a few minutes after launching.
