Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat in search for missing child

A MISSING child sparked a search of the riverside at North Shields on Monday evening, joined by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat volunteers.

UK Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore at 19:37 following a request for assistance from Northumbria Police after a 10 year-old child was reported to be missing in the area of Western Quay, North Shields. Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were also tasked to assist from shore.

The lifeboat with three crew members launched five minutes later and started searching the river along the quay.

After just a few minutes into the search, the child was confirmed as having been located safe and well at the house of a friend, so the search was stood down and the lifeboat returned the short distance to the lifeboat station.
