Suspicious Bag Recovered From Sea

A SUSPICIOUS bag thrown into the sea was recovered by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew members on Monday afternoon.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 16:50 after Northumbria Police requested assistance in recovering a bag thrown into the sea by two males near Trow Point, South Shields. The males had reportedly made threats to witnesses and police were keen to recover the bag.

The lifeboat arrived on scene soon after and the crew were guided to the floating bag by members of the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade who had been tasked to assist on shore.

The bag was quickly recovered, found to contain what appeared to be chickpea daal (which leaked all over the inside of the lifeboat) and a soggy loaf of bread, and was passed to waiting police officers on shore.

The lifeboat then returned to station where it was hosed out, refuelled and made ready for service again.
