Humber Coastguard paged our volunteer lifeboat crews at 21:55 after receiving a report of a 12-year-old child falling into the marina, located a mile upriver of the lifeboat station on the north bank of the Tyne.
The lifeboat with three crewmembers launched just four minutes after being paged and sped upriver to the marina. The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were tasked and the Port of Tyne pilot launch Collingwood also responded to the emergency.
As the lifeboat approached Royal Quays the crew were updated with the information that the casualty had been confirmed as being rescued by members of the public, and was actually an elderly woman. As she was now in the care of paramedics the lifeboat and TVLB were stood down by Humber Coastguard.
