Inshore Lifeboat Tasked To Investigate Speedboat

A REPORT from Tyne Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) with concerns over the occupants of a small speedboat late on Monday night led to Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat being tasked to investigate.

The lifeboat and three volunteer crew were approaching the lifeboat station at 23:50 on their return from the previous service when they were tasked by Humber Coastguard to investigate the concerns Tyne VTS had over the abilities and competence of the occupants of a small speedboat close to Royal Quays Marina.

The lifeboat sped the short distance to the marina but the volunteers only found a 10 metre yacht that had entered the Tyne a few minutes previously, the crew of which were slightly confused over the entrance to the marina. The lifeboat crew set them on the correct course but could not find any trace of a speedboat in the area.

As there were no vessels at all in the area the lifeboat stood down and returned to station.
