Three RNLI Lifeboats In Search For Missing Person

A MISSING person led to the launch of Tynemouth RNLI all weather and inshore lifeboats, and Cullercoats RNLI lifeboat on Monday night.

At 21:59 Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats after receiving a request for assistance from Northumbria Police who were looking for a person threatening self harm. The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were also tasked to search on shore.

The Tynemouth lifeboats launched just six minutes after the volunteer crew members were paged and were tasked by Humber Coastguard to carry out a shoreline search between Tynemouth Pier and Seaton Sluice. Cullercoats RNLI lifeboat launched shortly after and sped to start their search from Seaton Sluice, working south.

As the search progressed Northumbria Police provided further information that the person was known to them and the risk of them self-harming was not high.

After an exhaustive search of the shore Humber Coastguard called the search off at 23:28 and all search units including the lifeboats returned to station.
