Casualty Recovery At Souter PointBoth Tynemouth lifeboats were launched late on Tuesday night to assist with the recovery of a casualty at Souter Point, South Tyneside.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats after they received a request for assistance from Northumbria Police following the discovery of a body under the cliffs.

The all weather and inshore lifeboats launched at 23:24 and stood by as a precaution while a cliff rescue team from Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue recovered the casualty. Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to the operation.

Once there were no rescue personnel at risk on the cliffs the lifeboats returned to station, arriving at 00:45.
