REPORTS of children being cut off by the tide on a South Tyneside beach led to the launch of two RNLI lifeboats and the tasking of the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade on Friday afternoon.
Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Tynemouth inshore lifeboat and Sunderland’s B class lifeboat at 12:43 after the children were reported to be in difficulty near Camel Island, north of Marsden Bay.
As the volunteer lifeboat crews searched from shore, the SSVLB soon located the children who were safe and near stairs leading up the cliffs. Once Humber Coastguard was satisfied there was no-one else in the area who could have been in danger, the rescue teams were stood down and returned to station.
