Anglers Stranded At Sea Rescued

FOUR people onboard an angling boat were towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat on Sunday morning after their boat’s engine failed, leaving them stranded two miles east of Cullercoats.

The all weather lifeboat was on a routine training exercise when the crew heard the skipper of the angling boat First Dawn radio Humber Coastguard for assistance at 10:30.

The stranded boat was just half a mile away so the lifeboat immediately went to the angler’s aid.

Once it was confirmed that this was the casualty vessel Humber Coastguard tasked the lifeboat to tow the First Dawn and her four occupants to safety at Royal Quays Marina, where they could make repairs.

Once at Royal Quays the casualty was made fast on a pontoon before the lifeboat was refuelled and returned to station, arriving at mid-day.
