Lifeboat launched to suspected body in water
Customs House Quay

Reports of a body floating in the river Tyne prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat on Thursday evening.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 19:05 after they received a report from a member of the public about a body in the water near to Customs House Quay, South Shields.

The lifeboat sped to the scene and the volunteer crew quickly identified the ‘body’ as a floating log.

The incident was treated as a false alarm with good intent and the lifeboat was stood down.
