Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat tows trawler Good Fellowship to safety A trawler with three fishermen on board was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat this morning after the vessel became stranded 12 nautical miles east of Whitley Bay.

The skipper of the 15m, 28 tonne Good Fellowship radioed Humber Coastguard for assistance shortly before 8am after the vessel’s propeller became fouled by its fishing gear, leaving it without propulsion.

The crew of the all weather lifeboat was paged and launched at 8.09am, steaming at maximum speed to reach the trawler at 08.39.

The lifeboat’s tow rope was quickly attached to the trawler which was towed to safety without further incident, arriving at North Shields Fish Quay at 10:20am.

Once the Good Fellowship was made fast on the quay the lifeboat was refuelled at Royal Quays marina and arrived back and ready for service again at the lifeboat station at 10:45.
