Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat Tasked To Assist Newbiggin Rescue

Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat was tasked to assist Newbiggin RNLI lifeboat in the rescue of a fishing coble on Sunday afternoon.

The all weather lifeboat had just returned to station after the previous service to assist with a missing person when Humber Coastguard tasked it at 15:40 to assist with the ongoing rescue of a man having difficulties on his boat in the estuary of the river Wansbeck, a mile south of Newbiggin on Sea.

Newbiggin RNLI lifeboat’s crew had already taken the distressed casualty off his boat and were returning him to safety and the Newbiggin Coastguard Rescue Team at Newbiggin harbour but Humber Coastguard tasked Tynemouth’s much larger all weather lifeboat as a precaution in case assistance was needed to tow the casualty vessel.

As the Tynemouth lifeboat neared the scene the Newbiggin lifeboat crew confirmed they had the vessel under tow and needed no assistance so the Tynemouth lifeboat was allowed to stand down and return to station.
