Search For Missing Person

THE SEARCH for a missing man was joined by both Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats on Sunday afternoon after he was reported missing on the South Tyneside coast.

Humber Coastguard Operations Centre received the report of the missing person at 14:12 and immediately tasked Tynemouth RNLI inshore and all-weather lifeboats to join shore-based search teams from the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade, Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and Northumbria Police.

The volunteer RNLI crews were tasked to search for the male who was thought to be in the area of the coast between Trow Point and Souter lighthouse. He was believed to have left his car in a car near cliffs and failed to return.

The lifeboats searched the coast between these points but after an hour one of the Coastguard teams reported that the suspected missing person had turned up at his car and had in fact been watching a football match.

Once it was confirmed that this person was the same that had been reported missing all search teams were stood down and the lifeboats returned to station.
