The alarm was raised at 11:45 on Monday and the inshore lifeboat was tasked to travel the 8 miles upriver to the incident a short distance west of Newcastle Quayside.  Police, Fire & Rescue, Paramedics and the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were also tasked.

As the lifeboat, crewed by volunteers Mark Taylor and Pete Lennox, approached the scene it was reported that the casualty was in the care of paramedics. Humber Coastguard then stood the lifeboat down which returned to station arriving at 12:40.
