A PERSON in the water prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore and all weather lifeboats late on Saturday night.

Humber Coastguard paged the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 22:37 after Northumbria Police requested assistance following reports of a person in the river Tyne at Customs House Quay, South Shields.

The all weather lifeboat was also launched to provide support for the inshore lifeboat.

As the lifeboats arrived on scene the volunteer crew members found that the person had been recovered from the water by Police officers and no further assistance was needed.

The lifeboats were stood down and returned to station shortly after.

Lifeboats: 17-20 Spirit of Northumberland and D-693 Mark Noble.
