A MAN in a drifting boat was rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat in the early hours of Friday morning.
Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 2.35am after receiving reports of a distressed male who had earlier threatened self-harm and was now adrift in a small boat in the river Tyne near to North Shields fish quay.
After launching the volunteer crew quickly located the man and brought him ashore at the lifeboat station where he was checked over and not found to need medical attention. He was then taken into police custody for his own safety.
