Teens Trapped By Tide

THREE teenagers were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat on Thursday evening after they became trapped by the tide.

The boys, aged around 14, called 999 for help at 17.45pm when they became cut off on the rocks in a small cove between Man Haven and Marsden Bay, South Shields.

Humber Coastguard immediately requested the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat which sped to the scene.

When the lifeboat arrived one of the three volunteer crew members waded ashore to check on the boys who were unharmed but very pleased to see their rescuers.

All three were taken on board the lifeboat and taken the short distance to the nearby beach where they were handed into the care of Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team members who had been assisting from shore.

The lifeboat then returned to station arriving at 18:24.
