Three Stranded Anglers Brought To Safety

THREE anglers and their boat were towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat on Friday afternoon after their vessel’s engine failed.

The stranded men called Humber Coastguard for help at 16:12 after their 7m boat’s engine failed, stranding them just outside the south Tyne pier.

The all weather lifeboat launched a few minutes later and sped just over a mile to reach the casualty vessel. The lifeboat crew quickly attached a tow rope and towed the boat and the anglers to safety at Royal Quays Marina where they were met by members of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade who had also been tasked by Humber Coastguard.

Once the boat was safely tied up the lifeboat returned to station.

It is though that water contamination of the boat’s fuel was to blame for the engine failure.
