Cabin Cruiser Towed To Safety

A CABIN cruiser with three men on board was towed to safety by Tynemouth lifeboat on Wednesday morning after its engine failed, leaving the men stranded just outside the Tyne piers.

The all weather lifeboat was requested to launch at 10:54, just 6 and half hours after returning from the longest distance service any RNLI lifeboat has ever carried out, when Humber Coastguard received a call for assistance from the skipper of the 6m boat.

The lifeboat launched soon after and sped the short distance to the broken down boat. The crew quickly attached a tow rope and took the boat and the three men to safety at Royal Quays Marina.

This was the 40th launch on service for Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats during 2015.
