The alarm was raised at 15:00hrs after a 999 call was received by Humber Coastguard alerting them to the jet ski riders predicament. They requested the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat which sped the short distance from the lifeboat station to the scene soon after.
The craft and rider were taken under tow alongside the lifeboat and returned to shore at South Shields slipway where the owner had launched from earlier.
Once the casualty was safe the lifeboat returned to station.
