Cabin Cruiser towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

A CABIN cruiser was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat this afternoon after the vessel’s engine failed, leaving the sole occupant stranded.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 14:54 after the skipper of the 7m boat called for help, reporting his position as approximately half a mile off South Shields.

The lifeboat and volunteer crew launched just 6 minutes after being paged and travelled at maximum speed out of the Tyne piers to the casualty vessel’s location.

The boat was quickly found and a tow rope attached. One lifeboat crew member was put on board the boat which was then towed to safety at Royal Quays marina.

The lifeboat then returned to station arriving at 16:00.
