Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station

Stranded cabin cruiser towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

TWO people were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat this afternoon after their cabin cruiser’s engine failed, stranding them in the lower Tyne harbour.

Humber Coastguard  paged the lifeboat crew at 14:53 after an initial report of a person in the water with a boat possibly sinking but after the lifeboat launched and reached the scene they located the 5m boat with two people on board, but not in any immediate danger. The two occupants had anchored their vessel as they were concerned about it drifting on to the nearby Black Midden rocks.

The three volunteer lifeboat crew secured the boat alongside and towed it across the river to safety at South Shields slipway, making sure the occupants were safe, before returning to station.
