Search for missing woman by both Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats
Humber Coastguard received a request for assistance from Northumbria Police who were concerned for the safety of a 67 year-old Wallsend woman who had been reported missing by her family earlier in the day. The woman was reported to have been very keen on visiting coastal and riverside areas.
Initially, Tynemouth inshore lifeboat launched at 21:20 to join the search which was concentrating on the banks of the Tyne from Jarrow to Hebburn and Felling, but the decision was taken to also launch the all weather lifeboat to join the search but not to travel so far inland, reaching as far as the OGN Hadrian Yard. The Northumbria Police helicopter was also searching for the woman and teams from the South Shields and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigades were tasked by Humber Coastguard.
The lifeboat crews searched extensively on both sides of the river and at 11:30 Humber Coastguard was satisfied nothing further could be done and stood the search teams down. Both lifeboats then returned to station.
Soon after, Northumbria Police reported that the missing woman had turned up at home and was safe and well.
Lifeboats: D-693 Mark Noble and 17-20 Spirit of Northumberland
