Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station

Three people on boat taken to safety by Tynemouth RNLI volunteers

THREE people on board a 4m cabin cruiser were towed to safety after their vessel suffered engine failure leaving then drifting close to rocks.

Tynemouth RNLI volunteers who were at the station preparing to visit Seaton Sluice Harbour Day noticed the small vessel had stopped close to rocks near South Shields slipway, on the opposite side of the river Tyne to the lifeboat station and using binoculars quickly saw that the occupants were having difficulty.

Three crew members used the station boarding boat to investigate and the boat owner gratefully accepted a tow the short distance back to the slipway where he could investigate his engine problems.

The crewmembers returned to the lifeboat station at 12:45 just five minutes after setting off.
