Drifting speedboat towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

The jetty extension at Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station

A SPEEDBOAT was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat after its engine failed and it drifted onto the jetty extension at the lifeboat station.

The alarm was raised at 18:36 when the skipper of the vessel called for help. The inshore lifeboat was quickly launched and took the boat under tow, taking it and its occupants upriver to Willington Quay.

As the lifeboat neared the vessel’s berth the crew were tasked to another call with suspected people in the water at Marsden Grotto so they placed the speedboat on the waiting pontoon and immediately started making their way back out to sea.

Lifeboat: D-693 Mark Noble.
