A POWER boat with two occupants was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat this evening after the boat broke down in the river Tyne near Hebburn.
Humber Coastguard received a report at 20:55 that a small boat was drifting in the river and immediately requested the launch of Tynemouth’s inshore lifeboat to assist.
The lifeboat with three volunteer crew sped the 6 miles upriver and located the casualty vessel, a 5.5m power boat.
The lifeboat crew took the vessel under tow and returned it to its moorings at Satellite Quay, South Shields, making sure the two occupants were safely ashore before returning to station at 22:00.
