Angling Boat towed to safety in Wear by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

AN angling boat was towed to safety on the River Wear by Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat after its engine failed 1.5 miles south east of Sunderland harbour.

The lifeboat was launched at 18:00 after the skipper of the Kianna K called Humber Coastguard for help.

As the lifeboat approached the tow rope was prepared and when on scene the vessel was checked and the tow attached. The Kianna K was then towed up the River Wear to her moorings at Deptford, in a first for Tynemouth lifeboat. Once the vessel was safely moored the lifeboat returned to the Tyne for refuelling and arrived back on station at 20:05.
