Three Stranded Men Rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

THREE men and their angling boat were towed to safety today after their engine failed, leaving them stranded just North of Tynemouth pier.

Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was requested to launch at 12:52pm after the skipper of the 7m Fay Lowe called for help when a tow rope from another angling boat that had been towing them to safety snapped.

The lifeboat reached them just a few minutes from launching and quickly attached a tow rope before starting the tow back to the Tyne.

As the vessels passed through the lower harbour the angling boat’s skipper radioed to say that his engine had started, but as a precaution the lifeboat accompanied the boat as far as Whitehill Point to ensure the engine was going to keep running.

The Fay Lowe was expected to make its way to its berth at Willington Gut but as the lifeboat returned from fuelling at Royal Quays, the amazed crew spotted the boat heading out to sea again. Thankfully it suffered no more failures and the lifeboat returned to station.
