Teenagers cut off by tide rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

FIVE Teenagers were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat this afternoon after they became trapped by the high tide.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 17:16 when they received a report that a number of teenagers were trapped on Camel Island, South Shields.

Arriving at the island the volunteer lifeboat crew took all the teenagers, all of whom were unharmed, on board the lifeboat before returning them to safety on the beach, where they were met by Coastguards and Police.

The lifeboat then returned to station.
