Capsized Dinghy Sparks Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat Launch

The inshore lifeboat returning to station today.

A CAPSIZED sailing dinghy prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat this afternoon in what proved to be a false alarm.

A member of the public reported seeing a sailing dinghy capsizing several times close to the Tyne Piers and Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 13:53.

Speeding to the scene the three volunteer crew members found no vessel of any type in distress and after speaking to sailors from the local sailing club it became apparent that the capsized dinghy was one of theirs. Capsizing small dinghy’s is a normal process of learning to sail and after ensuring there was no-one in any difficulty the lifeboat crew returned to station.
