Four people rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

FOUR people on board a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) were towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI after their boat’s engine failed leaving them stranded half a mile off South Shields.

The RIB’s helmsman called for help at 12:12 after the vessel became stranded and Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat to go to their assistance.

The casualty was quickly located near Trow Point and a tow attached by the volunteer lifeboat crew before being towed to safety at South Shields slipway.

After ensuring the four people were safe the lifeboat returned to station.
