Yacht towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

A YACHT and it’s lone skipper skipper were towed to safety this afternoon by Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat after the boat suffered mechanical difficulties.

Humber Coastguard requested the lifeboat launch at 16:24 after the skipper of the 7m yacht called for assistance while in the lower Tyne harbour, between the piers.

The lifeboat quickly arrived on scene and the volunteer crew assessed the situation, placed one crewman on board the yacht and attached a tow rope. A drogue was also attached to the yacht to stabilise it during the tow back to Royal Quays marina where they arrived at 17.05. After ensuring the casualty vessel was securely tied up the lifeboat returned to station.
