Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat in search for Missing Man

A MISSING man prompted a search by Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat today.

Northumbria Police contacted Humber Coastguard for assistance after  a 20 year-old man was last seen leaving his home in the Walker area of Newcastle  at 1.20am.  The man suffers from depression and police were extremely concerned for his welfare.

The Inshore lifeboat with a volunteer crew of three was launched at 12.02pm and requested to search both sides of the river Tyne upriver from North Shields towards Newcastle. The Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue boat was tasked to carry out a similar search from Newcastle towards the coast while members of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade searched the North bank of the river on land.

After carrying out a thorough search, no trace of the man was found and the lifeboat was stood down, returning to station at 1.25pm

Northumbria Police later said that the missing man had been found safe and well in Scotland.
