Woman threatening cliff jump sparks launch of both Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats

A WOMAN threatening to jump from cliffs at Frenchman’s Bay, South Tyneside prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI all weather and inshore lifeboats today.

At 12.08pm Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats after receiving a request for assistance from police officers after a member of the public had raised the alarm. Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked on shore.

As the lifeboats left the Tyne harbour, making their way south, it was confirmed that the woman had been taken into police custody and the lifeboats were stood down, returning to station at 12:30.
